Handmade Pottery from Dartmoor
I make one-off handmade pottery in my Dartmoor home studio and at the Mansion Studio in Totnes, including wheel-thrown and hand-built stoneware, raku pottery and sculptural ceramics.
The colours, textures and the changing light of Dartmoor’s natural landscapes and the Devon coast inspire my work. Weathered rock, muted colours and flowing natural forms are particular influences.
Working predominantly in stoneware, I make one-off pots, cups, mugs, bowls, vases and sculptural forms by hand and on the wheel.
Distinctive surfaces come from experimenting with different clays, glazes and firing techniques. This produces a wide variety of forms, textures and finishes.
I use electric, wood and raku kilns. Each firing brings its own variations in colour, texture, and character. The unpredictability is part of the appeal helping to make every finished piece unique.
I show and sell my handmade pottery locally in Devon and I regularly take part in pottery events. I am also an active member of the West Country Potters Association.

My Story
After a career in medicine, I discovered pottery in retirement as a way to explore creativity and reconnect with the natural world. I value the concentration and quiet that come from working with clay.
My work is strongly influenced by the landscape around my Dartmoor home — its moorland, granite, wild flowers, rivers and changing light — as well as by the sea.
Each piece is individually made by hand in stoneware or raku clay. I enjoy allowing the firing process, particularly raku and wood firing, to introduce an element of unpredictability, so no two pieces are quite the same. Please view the Process page for more information about making and firing.
Inspired by Dartmoor & the sea
The changing colours of the moor, ancient granite, wild flowers, and flowing rivers all influence the shapes and surfaces of my work. I am fortunate to have a wild flower meadow next to my home.
