I am Paul, a Dartmoor potter making individual pots by hand in Devon. I have a particular interest in raku and other firing methods that create unpredictable surfaces, colours and textures.
Coming to pottery later in life I quickly became absorbed by the combination of form, fire and chance. I begin much of my work on the wheel, and I then alter, glaze and decorated by hand.
As a Dartmoor potter, I take much of my inspiration from the colours, textures and changing light of the local landscape.
I favour pieces that retain some evidence of the making process – irregularities, firing marks and surfaces that make each pot individual rather than uniform.
Both functional and decorative ceramics are made in small numbers working from my studio on Dartmoor and in Totnes.
You can see examples of my finished work in the Gallery
